Welkom in de cockpit!

In ICARUS krijgen de piloten exact 40 minuten de tijd om uit te zoeken waar het mis zal gaan om het publiek en zichzelf te redden.

Al eeuwen hebben mensen ernaar verlangd om te kunnen vliegen en sinds 100 jaar is het mogelijk. Toch blijft het iets vreemds. Vliegen is fascinerend en beangstigend tegelijk.

Hoe veilig ben je eigenlijk als je je tien kilometer boven de aarde met duizend kilometer per uur verplaatst? ICARUS gaat over het verlangen om te kunnen vliegen, overmoed en het menselijk falen.

ICARUS

Pilots appear to be a kind of demigods. Their ability to fly sets them apart from normal people. But should we not ask ourselves if the implicit trust we put on these demigods is justified?

Icarus sheds light on the human side of flying, using recordings from the black box (which is actually yellow), reconstructions and eyewitness accounts. Where does it go wrong sometimes, why do planes crash?

During the 45 minutes of the performance the public will live through the final moments in the cockpits of the world’s most famous plane crashes.

Wouldn’t you also like to leave off flying more often because it’s bad for the environment?
