In de zomer van 2011 maakte de PeerGrouP in samenwerking met Huus van de Taol De Drentse Bluesopera. De Drentse Bluesopera was een muziektheaterspektakel dat in de maanden juli en augustus 20x gespeeld werd voor 500 toeschouwers per avond. De voorstelling vond plaats in de openlucht nabij het dorp Gieten.
In september 2011 werd De Drentse Bluesopera eenmalig gespeeld in Koninklijk Theater Carré.

De boer centraal
De Drentse Bluesopera gaat over het dilemma waar veel jonge boeren tegenwoordig voor staan. Ga je het bedrijf van je ouders voortzetten of geef je er – moe van regelgeving en dwang tot grootschaligheid – de brui aan? Door het dalende aantal boeren verandert Drenthe wezenlijk van karakter. Drenthe wordt steeds meer een recreatiepark of erger nog: een bejaardenoord! De Drentse Bluesopera brengt deze actuele thematiek als een vrolijke satire voor het voetlicht. Met de blues als leidraad.

In collaboration with the ‘Huus van de Taol’ the PeerGrouP will be presenting The Drenth Blues Opera this summer. In July and August 2011 this musical-theatrical pageant will be staged 20 times for an audience of 500 at the most in the open-air not far from thevillage ofGieten.

Farmers as key figures
The Drenth Blues Opera is about the dilemma that confronts today’s young farmers: to either continue being a farmer like their parents or to throw in the towel, tired of rules and regulations and the pressure to farm on an ever-increasing scale. Drenthe has changed fundamentally as a result of the decreasing number of farmers. The province is gradually turning into a recreational park or, worse, into a retirement farm. The Drenth Blues Opera brings these actualities into the limelight with satirical humour and the blues as guideline.

Auditions for local talents
The artistic crew consists of Tom de Ket (direction and script), Sjoerd Wagenaar (concept and production), Egbert Meyers (initiative, lyrics and music) and Remko Wind (composition and arrangements). The cast of the opera will be a combination of professionals and amateurs. The amateurs will be local. Public auditions will be held in pubs and cafes in the villages in the neighbourhood to enlist singers for solo-performances and the chorus, actors, dancers and extras (young and old!).
